MMOC is an outreach program designed by Monadnock Music (MM) for individuals recovering in a rehab facilities or living in long-term health care facilities. Musical programming can be a critical component of health improvement and life enhancement for seniors over 65, and especially for non-ambulatory seniors who are unable to leave their long term care facility.

There is evidence that, when used with conventional treatment, encounters with live music have the following positive outcomes:

  • lowers the heart rate
  • lowers blood pressure
  • slows breathing rates
  • reduces pain
  • relieves stress levels
  • promotes an overall sense of wellbeing

Results of a study of older people exposed to regular musical performances showed improvement to physical, social, and emotional measures, including fewer falls, decreases in medication and doctor visits, reported decreases in loneliness and depression, and increased involvement in community activities.

Professional musicians will perform solo and chamber concerts on site, promoting healing and enhancing the quality of life for residents. MMOC builds on other MM outreach programs, and is uniquely capable of offering this program, having worked in varied community settings in a dedicated effort since 1986.

The mission of MM is to make exceptional music accessible to all - in intimate and informal settings, and in all towns of the Monadnock region.

MMOC complements music therapy used by health care professionals to promote healing and enhance quality of life for their patients. Older adults in long-term care face a loss of community, family, and home and increased isolation. MMOC will utilize music as a means to improve the physical, social, and emotional wellbeing of those who are physically challenged.
