Steven Jackson was born in Chicago where he began playing the clarinet at age nine. As a student of Boston Symphony Orchestra principal clarinetist Harold Wright at Boston University, he was cited for special achievement in performance by the National Endowment for the Arts, Boston University, and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. For nine seasons he was principal clarinetist of the Shreveport (LA) Music Festival and subsequently appeared at the Athens (Greece), Blossom, Marlboro, Mostly Mozart, Rockport, and Tanglewood festivals. For many seasons he has been a grateful and priveleged participant in the Monadnock Music Festival in Peterborough, NH. His appearances there have included premieres of works by Elliott Carter and Gyorgi Kurtag and others. In Massachusetts, where Mr. Jackson lives, he has appeared with the Boston Symphony, Boston Pops, and Springfield Symphony. Presently he is acting principal clarinetist of Boston Lyric Opera and Boston Ballet as well as principal clarinet of the Orchestra of Indian Hill, Nashua (NH) Symphony, and Granite State Symphony. He has also performed with many touring orchestras including those of The Royal Ballet Company of Great Britain, and popular artists Linda Ronstadt, The Irish Tenors, and Diana Krall.
